# Agent Note: Sample over-cap glob results across the tree
Status: implemented
English | [中文](2026-07-27-glob-sampling.zh.md)
## Problem
Asked what a workspace contained, an agent described one subfolder as if it were the whole project. The workspace held 22 top-level entries and 11,485 files. `glob {"pattern":"*"}` matched 10,030 paths, but all 100 inline paths sat under one recently unpacked subtree, so the model never saw the other 21 entries.
Three individually valid behaviors composed into the false impression. A glob without `/` matches basenames at any depth, so `*` means every file in the tree rather than the shell's current-directory expansion. Ripgrep's `--sort=modified` is ascending, so an archive's restored old timestamps put that subtree first. The inline page then took the head of that order without saying that it represented only one concentrated slice.
## Decision
A result that fits within `globMaxResults` remains complete and byte-for-byte modification-time ordered. The required `sampleOverCapGlobResults` config has no fallback: `false` retains the modification-time head for an over-cap result, while `true` samples round-robin across the complete result's top-level entries. In sampling mode, every entry receives one slot before any receives a second, exhausted groups drop out, relative order remains stable within each group, and grouping is relative to the actual search root, including an explicit `path`.
In sampling mode, the footer states that the page is a cross-entry sample rather than the modification-time head and reports how many top-level entries it reaches when that fact adds information. When more top-level entries exist than inline slots, it tells the model to narrow `path`. Head mode keeps the ordinary capped-result footer. When spill succeeds, both modes preserve the complete sorted list in the artifact.
The prompt and schema state the configured over-cap ordering, that a pattern without `/` matches at any depth, and that glob returns files, never directory entries. The shipped CLI composition explicitly selects head mode; deployments that want representative capped pages select sampling mode. Directory orientation remains ordinary shell work in deployments that expose the model-facing bash tool: use `ls` for one directory, and glob for a named file-path pattern across the tree. `ctx.fs.listDir` remains an internal provider primitive used by skill discovery; this decision adds no model-facing `list` tool.
## Alternatives considered
**Keep the modification-time head as the only behavior.** Rejected after measuring the failure shape. Some deployments need the stable ordering, but a deployment that values workspace orientation can explicitly select representative data instead of asking the model to distrust the only paths it received.
**Give the sampling choice a default.** Rejected. No product-wide evidence establishes either ordering as the implicit contract, so every composition selects one and misconfiguration fails at load.
**Sample every result.** Rejected. A complete result loses nothing to truncation, so modification-time order remains useful for age-oriented questions. Sampling begins only when the head stops describing the whole.
**Switch to newest-first order.** Rejected. It merely changes which concentrated subtree can dominate and removes the existing oldest-first contract without making a capped page representative.
**Sample only past a skew threshold.** Rejected. No current evidence supports a deployment-wide threshold, and the model could not know which ordering contract applied. The existing cap is the explainable transition.
**Balance recursively below the top level.** Deferred. First-segment balance fixes the observed failure; deeper balancing needs an unsupported depth-versus-breadth policy.
**Add a model-facing `list` tool.** Rejected after implementation review. The default coding composition already exposes general bash and the model understands `ls`; a duplicate tool would add permanent schema/prompt tokens plus ordering, pagination, symlink, escaping, UI, and snapshot contracts without a distinct security or policy benefit. Thin deployments without a model-facing bash tool do not gain directory orientation from this change.
**Reject `*` or silently anchor separator-free patterns.** Rejected. The same basename-at-any-depth behavior makes `*.ts` useful across a tree. Documenting the rule preserves working ripgrep semantics.
## Consequences
A sampling-mode over-cap page no longer answers age-order questions from its inline paths; its footer says so, and the spill artifact retains the complete sorted view. Sampling balances only the first segment beneath the search root, so a deeper hot subtree can still dominate within one top-level entry. Head mode retains the concentration risk as an explicit deployment trade-off.
The tool surface does not grow. Every composition must set `sampleOverCapGlobResults`; changing it alters glob's prompt, schema description, and over-cap Native rendering. The canonical output keeps `root` so sampling mode can recover its grouping basis, while fitting results remain unchanged.
## Testing
Package tests pin the required config, both over-cap modes, their prompt and schema descriptions, concentrated and flat results, explicit roots, more groups than the JavaScript argument limit, exhausted groups, fewer slots than groups, and paths outside the workdir. The `fs-glob-sampling` ACP scenario explicitly enables sampling, boots a minimal real Loader/app/local-bash composition, and executes the real search plugin against a deterministic `rg` process fixture; its result spans four top-level entries instead of returning one subtree's head.

Status: implemented
[English](2026-07-27-glob-sampling.md) |

The two renderings are mutually exclusive, and the exclusion is enforced rather than assumed. A non-`auto` `scrollbar-width` or `scrollbar-color` makes Chromium and Safari discard every `::-webkit-scrollbar*` rule for that element, `::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb:hover` included. Declaring both unconditionally therefore leaves the hover token rendering nowhere at all: the engines that implement the hover pseudo-element are exactly the ones the standard properties silence, and Firefox has no hover pseudo-element to fall back on. The standard properties consequently sit inside `@supports not selector(::-webkit-scrollbar)`, which is true only where the pseudo-element is unimplemented, so Firefox takes the standard path and WebKit-based engines take the pseudo-element path. The WebKit rules are not gated in turn: an engine without those pseudo-elements drops them as unknown selectors, so a gate would only restate what selector matching already does. An engine too old for the `selector()` function makes the condition invalid, which evaluates false and selects the pseudo-element path — the correct side for the pre-16.4 Safari that is the realistic case for that reading.

The pair is rebound as a pair; rebinding the resting thumb alone leaves the hover state on the base-surface token. Eight surfaces rebind today: the command popup, the slash menu, the model-select panel, the settings panel, the shared `ui-primitives` menu card, the composer input card, the question composer card, and the todo panel. Most declare it on the elevated card rather than on the scrolling descendant, because the elevation is a property of the surface and custom properties inherit down to whichever child actually scrolls.

The pair is rebound as a pair; rebinding the resting thumb alone leaves the hover state on the base-surface token. The mechanically discoverable subset is owned by `packages/client/ui-theme/tests/scrollbar-styles.spec.ts`: any sheet that both scrolls and paints an elevated surface must rebind, so this note no longer maintains a complete surface inventory. Most declare the pair on the elevated card rather than on the scrolling descendant, because elevation belongs to the surface and custom properties inherit to whichever child actually scrolls.
The last four were missed in the first implementation and found in review, which is why the rebinding contract is now checked mechanically rather than by inspection: a sheet that scrolls somewhere and paints an elevated surface somewhere must rebind.
Four surfaces — `Menu`, `InputBar`, `QuestionComposer`, and `TodoPanel` were missed in the first implementation and found in review, which is why the per-sheet rebinding contract is checked mechanically rather than by inspection.
The elevated set is resolved from the palette's own dark elevation ladder — the surface tokens whose dark value lands on `bg-layer-2` or `bg-layer-3`, which is the step the l1/l2 split encodes. Deriving it instead from the sheets that already rebind was the first attempt and is unsound: such a set can only confirm what someone already remembered, and a surface nobody has rebound yet — exactly the case the check exists for — defines itself as unelevated. `--dsw-specific-tip` proved it, resolving to the menu surface's rung while the todo panel scrolled on it unrebound and the derived check stayed green.
Scope is by token family, not by geometry: only `--dsw-alias-bg-*` and `--dsw-specific-*` name a surface. `--dsw-alias-button-*`, `--dsw-alias-interactive-*`, and `--dsw-alias-markdown-*` reach the same rungs while naming a control or an inline span that no scroll container renders its bar against. Shape cannot make that call, since a floating button legitimately carries a radius, a shadow, and a fixed size. The check is per sheet rather than per rule because the card and the descendant that scrolls are separate rules, and CSS text does not express which contains which.

The track and the corner stay transparent, so the thumb reads against whatever surface scrolls under it; only the thumb and its hover state carry a token color.

`Menu``InputBar``QuestionComposer``TodoPanel`

# Agent Note: The human transcript projects append-origin events
Status: implemented
English | [中文](2026-07-29-human-transcript-append-origin.zh.md)
## Problem
The terminal and the host history gateway both treated the model-visible surface as the human transcript. A successful compaction replaces a surface range with one checkpoint node, so the moment that replacement landed the terminal dropped every message it shadowed — conversation the user had already read — and re-ran that destructive rebuild on any later replacement. The same confusion reached pagination: `maxMessages` counted every `user/message`, `assistant/message`, and `steering/message` in the window, so a model-only replacement copy consumed a page slot the human never filled, and the cut could land between a compaction's log-only provenance and the replacement that cites it.
Nothing was lost from the log. `Session.events` still held every original message and full tool result; the surface only decides what the model is sent next. The defect was entirely in the projection.
## Decision
Model and human projections are separate, and the event's own marker decides which one an event belongs to. `dsh-session` exports the marker split `isAppendSurfaceEvent(event)` and `isReplacementSurfaceEvent(event)` over the two `SurfaceOp` variants, from the browser-safe `surface` module. Append-origin events are the durable source for a transcript; replacement copies stay model-only. Everything that must send exactly what the model sees — `deriveMessages`, token accounting, the compaction backends, tool pairing, injected-context liveness, cross-session reference projection — keeps reading `session.surface`.
The terminal replays the transcript from append-origin surface events and keeps a shadowed step's tool cards paired through `transcriptToolCallIds`, which reads the append-origin `assistant/message` rather than surface membership. A landed compaction contributes one dim `… earlier context was compacted …` row at its own log position: the marker reports where the model stopped seeing that history instead of erasing it. The framed checkpoint payload never renders, and both paths classify a surface event by the same marker, so a compaction that arrives live and the same log replayed after resume produce the same transcript. Only replay re-derives `tool/call` pairing: a call event carries no marker of its own and inherits membership from the `assistant/message` that advertised it, which the live listener has necessarily just rendered.
A checkpoint is recognized through the compaction seam's own contract — `isCompactCheckpointSource`, the backend-independent marker `CompactService` requires on the replacement user message — so the terminal depends on the declared vocabulary, not on the shape of the replacement. `dsh-session-reference` already consumes that predicate to project another session's log; this is the same question asked by a different reader. Other replacements are silent: a pruned `tool/result` and a regenerated `assistant/message` rewrite one node for the model and mark no boundary in the conversation.
`session.history` counts only append-origin messages toward `maxMessages`. Each page remains one contiguous raw event range, so a compaction's `compact/summary` provenance stays on the page of the replacement that cites it.
No persisted event, RPC envelope, compaction transaction, or model-visible surface changed, and no migration is required.
## Deferred
The browser client is fixed separately, in [the web transcript projection note](2026-07-30-web-transcript-log-ordered-projection.md): it projects the same append-origin transcript in log order and renders a marker component, and it closes the pagination hole this change opened — because `session.history` no longer spends quota on the checkpoint, it never cuts on the checkpoint's provenance group, so a page can carry a checkpoint citing a `surfaceOp.start` outside the window, which the browser's surface fold rejected. That hole predates this change (counting could already run past a checkpoint into the range it shadows), but the old rule accidentally covered the case where the checkpoint was the oldest counted message and pulled the whole shadowed range onto its page.
The terminal's [live compaction progress decision](../feature/2026-07-30-compaction-progress-visibility.md) uses standalone bracket events to drive the existing one-cell indicator. It does not change the completion marker owned here or add scale: the checkpoint's `sourceEventSeqs` remain available for a separately justified count or range. Progress therefore needs neither marker-content changes nor a prerequisite `renderReplacement(event)` extraction.
## Alternatives considered
**Recognize a checkpoint by shape (a replacement `user/message`).** Rejected: it reads a coincidence of today's producers instead of a declared contract, and any future producer that replaces a range with a user message would silently inherit the compaction marker. The seam already publishes `COMPACT_CHECKPOINT_SOURCE` precisely so consumers can recognize a checkpoint independently of the backend.
**Keep rendering the checkpoint as an injected-context card.** Rejected: the framed checkpoint is an instruction envelope written for the model, not human conversation content. Showing it while hiding the history it replaced inverts what the reader needs.
**Persist a second display transcript.** Rejected: the append-only log already contains the authoritative source material, so a parallel record buys nothing and adds migration and consistency work.
**Derive the marker from the `compact/*` bracket instead of the checkpoint.** Rejected for the transcript: the bracket is a pair of time-point markers around an operation, while the transcript needs the position where the surface actually changed. The bracket is the right source for progress and duration, which this change does not render.
**Classify events by re-folding the log, as `session-query` does for search (`current` / `shadowed` / `log-only`).** Rejected: a fold answers a whole-log question, while a projection asks a per-event one that the event's own marker already answers in constant time.
## Consequences
Compaction no longer erases terminal history; a session compacted several times shows one marker per landed compaction, in log order. Pagination pages can carry more raw events than before, because quota is spent only on messages a human or model actually produced.
`rebuildTranscript` now materializes a component per append-origin event in the whole log, and it runs on mount, on a terminal color-scheme change, and on every reasoning toggle. Compaction used to bound that work for exactly the long sessions compaction serves, so the cost now grows with session length instead of with the surface. That is the trade the fix exists to make — preserved history is the point — but a windowing or reuse strategy belongs to whoever first measures a slow rebuild, not to a later profiler wondering why the work grew.
`dsh-tui` gains a dependency on the `dsh-compact` seam for one pure predicate, mirroring `dsh-session-reference`'s existing use. The terminal still needs no compaction backend at runtime.
Two behaviors changed with their tests. The surface-replacement terminal test previously pinned erasure ("hides shadowed tool calls") and now pins preservation plus exactly one marker, including a pruned result copy, a regenerated assistant message, and a foreign plugin's replacement all rendering nothing. The compaction snapshot scenario wrote a `workspace-context` source while claiming to pin compaction; it now writes a real checkpoint source, and its three fixtures are re-recorded to show the preserved prompt, the full tool card, and the marker.
The live/replay equivalence above is fixture-pinned, not only asserted here: `surface-replayed-compaction` mounts with the replacement already stored and records byte-identical to the live path's `surface-after-compaction-wide`. Changing either path breaks that equality, which is the point — the resume projection is what regressed for users, and the two fixtures must move together.

# Agent Note:
Status: implemented
[English](2026-07-29-human-transcript-append-origin.md) | 中文
## Problem
## Decision
`dsh-session` 在浏览器安全的 `surface` 模块中导出按两种 `SurfaceOp` 变体划分的谓词 `isAppendSurfaceEvent(event)``isReplacementSurfaceEvent(event)`。
## Deferred
因此,进度显示既不需要修改标记内容,也不以提取 `renderReplacement(event)` 为前置条件。
## Alternatives considered
接缝已经发布 `COMPACT_CHECKPOINT_SOURCE`,正是为了让消费方与后端无关地识别检查点。
## Consequences

# Agent Note: The approval takeover shares the composer's text cap
Status: implemented
English | [中文](2026-07-30-approval-panel-command-cap.zh.md)
## Problem
The approval panel is a composer takeover: while a sandbox escalation waits, it replaces the InputBar in the composer seat with the model's justification, the paired command, and a refuse/allow row. Both texts are unbounded model output, and the card had no height cap. A long command — the realistic shape, since escalation happens on the command the sandbox just denied, and a denied command is often a long inline write — grew the card until the action row left the viewport. The user could read the request and not answer it: the buttons existed, off screen, in a sticky footer that had already used the whole column.
The InputBar the panel replaces has always been capped (14 lines, then the textarea scrolls), so the takeover was also the one composer state that could grow without limit — the seat's height jumped on election and jumped back on answer.
## Decision
The panel's justification and command move into one scroll region (`data-approval-scroll`) capped at the same height as the composer's draft area; the amber strip and the action row sit outside it, so both buttons are in the card at every content length.
The cap is one value with two consumers, declared as `--dsh-composer-text-max-height: 336px` on `ConversationRoot`'s `.composerSeat` — the composer chain's only shared ancestor, since the fallback InputBar and an elected takeover render as siblings. `InputBar`'s mirror and the panel's scroll region both read it, so the seat cannot cap its two states differently: what the designer asked for ("unify it with the input box's max height") is now a fact of the stylesheet rather than a number repeated in two files. The region is `box-sizing: border-box` so the cap is its outer height, the same box the composer's draft area occupies.
The region is a tab stop (`tabIndex={0}`, named `role="group"`). Unlike the question composer's scroll body, whose option rows are focusable and pull the container along, this one holds nothing but text: without its own tab stop a keyboard-only user could reach the buttons and never the command's tail, and approve what they could not finish reading.
The panel's card rebinds `--dsh-scrollbar-thumb{,-hover}` to the l2 pair, as every scrolling surface on an elevated background must ([scrollbar contract](../../../../packages/client/ui-theme/src/styles/scrollbar.css)).
## Alternatives considered
**Cap the whole card instead of the text region.** One declaration, no restructuring, and it reads as the literal "same max height as the input box". Rejected because the card holds the strip and the action row: at 336px total the justification and command would get ~250px, less room than the draft they replace, and the numbers would only agree by coincidence of the strip's height. Capping the text region makes both seats top out at the same text height, which is the property that keeps the footer from jumping.
**Cap against the viewport like the question composer (`min(60vh, 520px)`).** The sibling takeover already does this, so it is the local precedent. Rejected because the designer's request was parity with the InputBar, and the two takeovers are not the same shape: the question composer's scroll content is a list of options the user must compare, which wants as much viewport as it can get, while the approval panel's is one command the user skims before deciding. A viewport-relative cap would also make the seat's height jump on election again, in the other direction.
**Ellipsize or truncate the command.** No scroll region, no cap, and the buttons stay put. Rejected because the command is the thing being approved: hiding its tail asks the user to consent to text they cannot read. Truncation is also unrecoverable here — the panel is the whole approval UI, so there is no "show more" surface to fall back to.
**Leave the action row inside the scroll region and cap the region.** Fewer moving parts than pinning the row. Rejected because it reproduces the defect inside the card: the buttons scroll out of the region, and the user has to discover a scrollbar to reach them.
## Consequences
- A long command scrolls inside the card and the refuse/allow buttons stay on screen. Measured on the built client at 900x1000 and 900x700: the region reports `scrollHeight` past `clientHeight`, and both buttons stay inside the card and inside the viewport.
- Electing the takeover no longer changes how tall the composer seat can get, so the transcript above it does not reflow by hundreds of pixels when an approval arrives or resolves.
- The InputBar's 14-line cap now resolves through a custom property inherited from `.composerSeat`. Rendering the bar outside that seat would drop the declaration (an unresolved `var()` with no fallback), so a future composer host has to carry the property — which is why it is declared on the shared seat rather than the app root.
- The scenario's recorded command is a 200-token blob, far longer than a round trip needs. That cost is deliberate: the cap is unfalsifiable without content that passes it, and the model compresses any regular payload (the first recording turned "alpha 400 times" into `printf 'alpha %.0s' {1..400}`, a one-line command that proves nothing).
## Verification
`apps/web/tests/approval-composer.e2e.ts` drives the real composition: a read-only session, a denied write, the model's escalation retry, and the answer clicked through the panel. The geometry assertion runs on the live panel at two viewport heights and is guarded against holding vacuously — the region must actually be scrolling, and the measured cap must equal the composer's own, which the test reads off the live textarea before sending rather than hardcoding the px value.
Confirmed both directions against the built client. With the cap reverted, the region reports `scrolls: false` and grows to the command's full height (1798px for the recorded blob at 900x1000, against 336px capped); at 900x700 the card is 680px tall against a 700px viewport and the action row's bottom lands at y=749 — below the fold, the designer's report exactly. With the cap restored the scenario passes in replay.
Reproducing the off-screen buttons needs a card taller than the scrollport, not merely a tall card. The composer seat is `position: sticky; bottom: 0`, so while the card still fits it stays pinned to the viewport bottom and the buttons remain visible — at 900x1000 the uncapped card ate the whole transcript yet kept its action row on screen. Only once the card outgrows the scrollport does sticky stop being able to hold the bottom edge, and the row goes under.
The geometry block and the golden are replay-only, so record mode reaches the fixture write instead of aborting on layout.
The scenario keeps exactly one golden — the waiting panel — and asserts the answered state on the world instead (the decided outcome, the file the escalated command wrote, `DONE`, the panel gone, the composer re-enabled). An answered-transcript golden was recorded first and failed on Linux CI: the denied first attempt renders the OS's own refusal, and that text is platform-specific (`bash: notes.txt: Operation not permitted` on macOS against `bash: line 1: notes.txt: Read-only file system` on Linux). Any scenario whose transcript contains a sandbox-denied command inherits that, so the denial belongs in assertions, never in a golden.
The panel ships as a client-module bundle: `pnpm run build:web` alone does not pick up a change to `ApprovalPanel.module.css` or a new `data-` hook in `ApprovalPanel.tsx` — the package build must run first, or the browser lane asserts against an older client than the tree.

# Agent Note:
Status: implemented
[English](2026-07-30-approval-panel-command-cap.md) |
`apps/web/tests/approval-composer.e2e.ts` 驱动的是真实组合:一个只读会话、一次被拒绝的写入、模型的越权重试,以及在面板上点击完成的回应。

# Agent Note: Composer context stack order
Status: implemented
English | [中文](2026-07-30-composer-context-stack-order.zh.md)
## Problem
Goal, Todo, and Queue contribute independently to the same `conversation.input.dock` list, but their registration order and spacing rules did not encode the composition matrix. The renderer therefore placed Todo before Queue and Goal, while both Queue and Goal carried negative margins intended for the composer boundary. When all three were present, Queue joined to Goal and Goal joined to the composer, reversing the design's hierarchy.
## Decision
The composer context stack has one canonical ascending order: Goal at `0`, Todo at `10`, and Queue at `20`, followed by the composer bar outside the list. The gaps leave room for future entries to declare their intended position without relying on plugin activation order.
`ConversationRoot` owns the 6px space between independent context cards. Goal is a standalone 752×36px card and collapsed Todo is a standalone 752×44px card. Queue is the terminal dock entry: its 776px wrapper contains the same 752px panel column and subtracts the shared gap plus a named 5px layout overlap, so the later composer card paints over only the queue edge. Empty entries render null and consume no gap.
The order and overlap are separate contracts. Registration order establishes semantic hierarchy; CSS variables on the stack establish shared geometry. Queue does not infer that it may overlap merely from being the last visible entry, because Goal or Todo can be the last visible context card when no queue exists and must remain separated from the composer.
## Verification
Registration tests pin all three order values. Browser screenshots cover the full Goal/Todo/Queue matrix, Goal+Todo without Queue, and Queue alone; together they exercise every adjacency: GoalTodo, TodoQueue, and QueueComposer.
## Alternatives considered
**Keep independent negative margins on Goal and Queue.** Rejected because the affected neighbor changes with slot order; a local margin cannot express which relationship is allowed unless the semantic order is also fixed.
**Render each known dock id separately in `ConversationRoot`.** Rejected because it turns an extensible list slot into a hardcoded component inventory and forces the owner to change for every new registrant.
**Tuck whichever dock entry is last.** Rejected because Goal and Todo are standalone cards. Their absence matrix must not change the surface semantics of whichever card remains.
## Consequences
The visual hierarchy is stable for every presence combination, and Queue is the only context surface joined to the composer. New input-dock plugins must choose an order relative to Goal `0`, Todo `10`, and Queue `20`; an entry after Queue also requires an explicit decision about which surface owns the composer boundary.

# Agent Note: Composer
Status: implemented
[English](2026-07-30-composer-context-stack-order.md) |

# Agent Note: Hover popup pointer grace
Status: implemented
English | [中文](2026-07-30-hover-popup-pointer-grace.zh.md)
## Problem
Both popups the workspace browser rows raise floated out of reach of the pointer. `HoverCard` closed on the first `pointerleave` from its anchor and rendered its card `pointer-events: none`, but the card sits 8px off the anchor's right edge, so every path to it crossed ground belonging to neither and killed the card before it arrived — the full workspace path and session title it exists to show could be read only in passing. The row action menus passed `closeOnPointerLeave`, whose handler sat on the portaled list: aiming back at the `...` trigger that opened the list closed it, and so did any overshoot past a list edge, with no window to come back.
## Decision
`usePointerGrace` ([packages/client/ui-primitives/src/pointer-grace.ts](../../../../packages/client/ui-primitives/src/pointer-grace.ts)) owns one cancelable delayed close, shared by both atoms, with `POINTER_GRACE_MS` at 200. Leaving arms the close; coming back cancels it. Transit through an anchor-to-popup gap is therefore survivable, while a pointer that has genuinely moved on still dismisses the popup.
`HoverCard` arms the grace on leave instead of closing, and its card no longer sets `pointer-events: none`, so resting on the card holds it open. Re-entering while already open cancels the pending close without restarting the dwell, which keeps the card from blinking when the pointer crosses the gap. A press on the card starts a selection instead of dismissing it; only anchor-region presses and an owner flipping `disabled` dismiss immediately, ahead of the grace.
`Menu` moves pointer-leave dismissal from the portaled list to the wrapper span. React's enter/leave traversal runs over the React tree, so the trigger and the portaled list are one region there: crossing the 4px gap between them, or aiming back at the trigger, no longer counts as leaving. Leaving is only armed while the list is open, and an owner-driven close (selection, Escape, outside click) disarms a pending grace close in an effect keyed on `open` alone — folding that into the outside-click effect would cancel the grace on every re-render, since owners pass a fresh `onClose` closure each time.
## Alternatives considered
**Close the popups only on outside click and Escape.** Rejected because both popups are hover-raised and unlabeled as dismissible; leaving them up after the pointer has moved to another row would strand a card over unrelated content.
**Widen the anchor's hit area to abut the popup.** Rejected because the 8px and 4px offsets are the design's, and an invisible bridge element would have to track every reposition the fixed-positioned popups already do on scroll and resize.
**Keep the hover card `pointer-events: none` and only add the grace.** Rejected because the pointer resting on the card would then hit whatever is behind it, so the grace would expire and close the card the user had just reached.
**Give each atom its own timer.** Rejected because the two closes are the same behavior with the same tuning; a shared hook keeps them from drifting apart.
## Consequences
The hover card is now hit-testable and covers 244px of whatever it overlays while shown, which is the price of being reachable; it still lives only as long as the pointer is on the row or the card. Row menus survive the round trip between trigger and list, and a menu that closes for its own reason cannot be reopened into a stale pending close. Menus without `closeOnPointerLeave` are untouched — the wrapper handlers are only attached when it is set.
## Testing
`packages/client/ui-primitives/tests/hover-card.spec.tsx` and `tests/atoms.spec.tsx` pin the grace boundary, cancel-on-return, no-second-dwell, disarm-on-owner-close, and the no-arming-while-closed case. The reachability gestures themselves — hovering onto the card, and moving between an open list and its trigger — are pinned in the real browser by `apps/web/tests/workspace-management.e2e.ts`, since they depend on hit testing and layout that jsdom does not model.

# Agent Note:
Status: implemented
[English](2026-07-30-hover-popup-pointer-grace.md) |
`usePointerGrace`[packages/client/ui-primitives/src/pointer-grace.ts](../../../../packages/client/ui-primitives/src/pointer-grace.ts))持有唯一一个可取消的延迟关闭,由两个原子组件共享,`POINTER_GRACE_MS` 为 200。
`packages/client/ui-primitives/tests/hover-card.spec.tsx``tests/atoms.spec.tsx` 固定验证宽限期边界、折返取消、不重启停留计时、所有者关闭时解除待执行关闭,以及列表关闭时不启动关闭。

# Agent Note: TUI model-context resolution defers on the adapter-registration race
Status: implemented
English | [中文](2026-07-30-tui-adapter-registration-race.zh.md)
## Problem
Cordis activates plugins by service availability, not configuration order, so the TUI (whose `inject` requires only the `llm` service) can mount before a configured adapter plugin such as `dsh-llm-pi-ai` finishes registering its provider routes. The TUI's model controller resolves the selected model's context window immediately on mount; when the agent's route pointed at a not-yet-registered provider, `resolveModelInfo` rejected with `NO_ADAPTER` and every fresh session printed `Could not resolve model context: no adapter registered for provider "…"` — a spurious error for a fully working configuration (the adapter registered milliseconds later, and chatting worked).
## Decision
The TUI model controller treats a `NO_ADAPTER` rejection of its context-window resolution as a transient state rather than an error: it parks the resolution silently and re-resolves on the next `llm/adapters-updated` commit — the payload-free registry notification `LlmService` already fires at every route commit point. A commit that still lacks the route parks the wait again, so unrelated topology changes stay silent. Any target change re-enters the resolution and clears the pending wait, so the deferred state can never go stale against the current selection; every other resolution error still prints the notice.
## Alternatives considered
**Have the TUI wait for boot to settle before resolving.** The TUI has no Loader dependency (tests and embedders run without one) and "settled" is not observable from inside a plugin; adding a Loader coupling for one cosmetic resolution inverts the dependency direction.
**Poll or retry with a timer.** A timer guesses at activation latency, still mis-prints on a slow adapter, and adds a tunable with no owner. The registry already announces every commit through `llm/adapters-updated`; subscribing is precise and free.
**Order the config so adapters load first.** Row order carries no load semantics in the Loader (activation is service-driven by design), so this cannot be expressed in configuration.
**Suppress NO_ADAPTER errors entirely.** A permanently missing adapter (typo in the provider name) would then never surface in the context-window path. Deferring keeps the signal: a wrong provider name still shows `model unset`-like behavior in the selector and fails loudly at dispatch, while the startup race resolves itself.
**Resolve the context window per submitted message instead of at mount.** The send path already resolves per step (`prepareCall()`), and the indicator is displayed continuously, not only when sending; per-submit display resolution would leave the indicator blank until the first message and re-run adapter I/O for a value that only changes on route changes.
## Consequences
A genuinely misconfigured provider no longer prints the context-resolution error at startup — it surfaces at first dispatch instead, which is where the failure is actionable. The controller subscribes to every `llm/adapters-updated` commit but acts only while a wait is parked; the listener's disposer is released by the channel's `detachListeners()` through the controller's `detach()`, symmetric with the sibling channel listeners. Covered by three TUI tests: the deferred resolution stays silent through an unrelated commit and completes when the route's commit arrives, a target change drops the stale wait, and after channel detach a registry commit no longer re-enters resolution.

# Agent Note: TUI
Status: implemented
[English](2026-07-30-tui-adapter-registration-race.md) | 中文
## Problem
## Decision
## Alternatives considered
**彻底压制 NO_ADAPTER 错误。
## Consequences

# Agent Note: Web details default closed
Status: implemented
English | [中文](2026-07-30-web-details-default-closed.zh.md)
## Problem
The transient layout store initialized details to its 360px contract width. The first connected Session and every full reload therefore reserved a right column before the user selected any detail content. Chat tool rows deliberately remain inline and do not open details, while Trajectory rows open the panel when an event is selected, so an open layout default did not represent an active detail selection.
## Decision
The layout store initializes details to zero while retaining the existing 360px contract default for `openDetails()`. `AppFrame` keeps the details slot mounted at zero width, so an explicit entry point such as Trajectory event selection can open the panel without remounting its subtree. The [Session ownership lifecycle](2026-07-29-web-details-session-lifecycle.md) remains authoritative: unselected surfaces derive zero width without taking ownership, returning to the same Session preserves an explicitly opened width, and selecting a different Session closes it.
Panel geometry remains transient. No browser storage key is introduced, and reload restores the sidebar default while details returns to zero. Component tests pin the store default, mounted zero-width slot, drag and concession behavior after explicit opening, and Session ownership transitions. The keyless shipped-composition regression pins the closed first Session, reload, new-session surface, and subsequent Session selections.
## Alternatives considered
**Persist the last open or closed preference.** Rejected because reload should have a deterministic closed baseline, and persisting geometry would reintroduce stale viewing state across browser sessions.
**Keep details open until Chat receives a replacement selection gesture.** Rejected because empty space is not useful detail content. Chat's inline tool-row interaction and any future detail-selection gesture are separate product decisions.
**Remove the details column and layout service.** Rejected because Trajectory already opens event details through this seam, and keeping the mounted slot preserves that working interaction.
## Consequences
New, restored, and reloaded Sessions use the full center area until an explicit details action opens the right column. Trajectory event selection can still open details at 360px and its close control returns the track to zero; Chat tool rows remain geometry-inert. Switching to another Session closes an opened panel, and no panel state survives reload.

# Agent Note: Web
Status: implemented
[English](2026-07-30-web-details-default-closed.md) |

# Agent Note: The browser conversation is a log-ordered human transcript
Status: implemented
English | [中文](2026-07-30-web-transcript-log-ordered-projection.zh.md)
## Problem
The browser client built its conversation from the model-visible surface: `FoldAdapter` ran the core `SurfaceManager` over the history window and read `surface.nodes`. A successful compaction replaces a surface range with one checkpoint node, so the moment that replacement landed the web flow collapsed every message it shadowed into a single dim context row — conversation the user had already read. Nothing was lost from the log; the defect was entirely in the projection, and [the terminal and the host gateway were fixed the same way](2026-07-29-human-transcript-append-origin.md) while the browser was left for this change.
Surface order made two further problems structural. It is not seq-ascending after a replacement — `SurfaceManager` splices the high-seq checkpoint into the position of the range it shadows — so log-only nodes merged into that array by numeric seq (slash-command rows, interrupted frozen nodes) could be flushed ahead of the checkpoint and never interleave into the retained tail again. And because pagination no longer spends `maxMessages` quota on replacement copies, a page can now carry a checkpoint whose `surfaceOp.start` lies outside the window; the core fold rejects that range, so `nodes()` fell back to a lenient linear scan behind a `console.error` and published a `foldDegraded` flag describing the failure.
## Decision
`TranscriptAdapter` replaces `FoldAdapter` and never consults surface order. It projects the raw window in log order: every append-origin surface event (`isAppendSurfaceEvent`) at its own log position, plus one `CompactionSummaryNode` marker per landed compaction checkpoint. A landed compaction therefore keeps the conversation it shadowed on the model side, and the marker reports where the model stopped seeing that history instead of erasing it. Model-only replacement copies stay out of the transcript: a pruned `tool/result` and a regenerated `assistant/message` rewrite one node for the model and mark no boundary in the conversation. Everything that must send exactly what the model sees keeps reading the surface; this is the human projection, and the two are now separate on both frontends.
Node order is seq-monotonic by construction, and three things follow. The log-only `command/run` / `command/done` pair folds into `CommandNode`s that splice into an already-monotonic array by seq — no anchors, no reordering. `Session` keeps ownership of interrupted frozen nodes and merges them by their fractional seqs with a plain sort, which is now exactly flow order. And a window whose checkpoint cites a shadowed range outside it has no range to resolve, so the marker renders and nothing is logged.
`foldDegraded` is gone from `ConversationSnapshot`, and with it the padding sentinels, the `baseSeq` arithmetic they needed, and `degradedSeqs()`. They existed only to satisfy the core fold's `seq === index` assertion and to survive its throw; the fold they describe is no longer run. Deleting the flag is part of the fix, not cleanup after it — `degradedSeqs()` was already almost the log-ordered projection, reached after a thrown error instead of intended.
The marker's summary text comes from the checkpoint's own `compact/summary` provenance, never from the framed checkpoint payload, which is an instruction envelope written for the model. A window cut that left the provenance outside makes the row non-expandable rather than empty, the same soft-fall as a call-less tool result, and a later page supplying the provenance resolves the text.
No persisted event, RPC envelope, compaction transaction, or model-visible surface changed, and no migration is required.
## Recognizing a checkpoint: one declaration, pinned at compile time
Recognition needs all three conditions, as in the terminal: `event.type === 'user/message'`, the compaction seam's checkpoint plugin source, **and** `isReplacementSurfaceEvent(event)`. A plugin-sourced `user/message` that *appends* is injected context — a session-reference card — not a compaction.
What is unreachable from a `packages/client/*` program is `dsh-compact`'s **root**, not the package. The root reaches `dsh-session`'s root, whose cordis `Context` merge declares the host `sessions: SessionStore` against the client's `sessions: ISessions``TS2717`, the one-program-per-side rule in [development.md](../../../../docs/development.md#typescript-project-layout) — and that holds for a type-only import too, because the collision is a compiler fact rather than a bundler one.
The repo's answer to exactly this is a cordis-free leaf subpath, and this change adds one: `COMPACT_CHECKPOINT_SOURCE` and `isCompactCheckpointSource` now live in `packages/compact/compact/src/checkpoint.ts`, which imports no cordis and augments no module (the `dsh-commands/brand` / `dsh-llm/message` shape), and the root re-exports both so every host-side consumer — the terminal's chat helpers, `dsh-session-reference`'s projection — is unchanged. The adapter pins its literal to that declaration with a type-only import:
```ts
import type { COMPACT_CHECKPOINT_SOURCE } from '@deepseek-ai/dsh-compact/checkpoint'
const COMPACT_PLUGIN: typeof COMPACT_CHECKPOINT_SOURCE.plugin = 'compact'
```
Renaming the seam's plugin id is now a compile error in the client: `TS2322: Type '"compact"' is not assignable to type '"compaction"'`. The import must stay **type-only** — a value import of any `@deepseek-ai` package that is neither a platform module nor an inline-safe wire layer is rejected by the client purity gate (`packages/client/tsdown.client.ts`), whose own message records that type-only imports are erased and never reach it. A type-only leaf import needs both a `tsconfig.base.json` `paths` entry and `{"path": "../../compact/compact"}` in `packages/client/runtime/tsconfig.json` `references`: composite `rootDir` rules apply to erased imports as well, and without the reference the diagnostic is `TS6059`/`TS6307`.
`packages/client/runtime/tests/compact-checkpoint-pin.spec.ts` stays as the behavioral half, driving the adapter with a checkpoint built from the canonical **value**. The test value-imports the cordis-free `@deepseek-ai/dsh-compact/checkpoint` leaf and deliberately never loads the compact package root or the host-side `Context` merges reachable through it.
The divergence from the terminal is therefore narrow: both frontends recognize a checkpoint from the same declaration — the terminal value-imports `isCompactCheckpointSource` host-side, where no gate applies, and the client pins the type.
## What #835's positional anchors were for, and why they are dissolved rather than lost
The unmerged manual-compaction-queueing branch fixes the same interleaving bug by recording a per-event anchor — the surface tail at append time — and retargeting shadowed anchors onto the checkpoint. That mechanism exists to make positional anchors survive surface **reordering**. The human transcript is never re-ordered, so anchors have nothing to retarget: the precondition is removed, not the fix discarded. The mechanism is absent from this base and is not authored here.
## Alternatives considered
**Value-import the predicate** from the new leaf and add `dsh-compact` to the client `INLINE_SAFE` allowlist. Rejected: the client needs the plugin id, not the predicate — a type is enough, and an erased import never reaches the purity gate, so nothing has to be admitted to it. The allowlist would only matter for a value import, and there it is a poor trade: `INLINE_SAFE` matches on specifier *prefix*, so admitting the package admits its cordis-importing root along with the leaf.
**A bare shape rule** — any replacement `user/message` is a compaction. Rejected: correct today only because compaction is the sole producer of replacement `user/message`s, with nothing to catch it if that changes. The pinning spec costs one file and removes exactly that risk.
**Tag the checkpoint host-side** through the projection or wire contract. Rejected: most aligned with the "collaborate through cordis services" rule, but the client folds raw `SessionEvent`s today, so it means a wire contract change out of proportion to one pure predicate.
**Move frozen-node ownership into the adapter** (`nodes(extraNodes)`), as the unmerged branch does. Rejected: the interrupted nodes come from the `turn/end` sweep `Session` already runs over the window, and with a seq-monotonic transcript the simple shape is correct — the adapter returns nodes, the session merges frozen ones by seq. Widening the adapter's signature would buy nothing and split the sweep from its product.
**Keep `foldDegraded` as a defensive flag.** Rejected: it described a specific failure of a fold that no longer runs. A flag no consumer can act on, reachable only through a `console.error`, is a false contract.
## Consequences
Compaction no longer erases web history; a session compacted several times shows one marker per landed compaction, in log order, and the same window renders identically live and after a cold resume. The pagination hole is closed by construction rather than defended against, and `ConversationSnapshot` loses a published field, which touched thirteen files.
`ConversationNode` gains an eighth arm, so every exhaustive consumer grew one case: `MessageItem` renders the marker through the new `CompactionItem`, and the trajectory layout widens its no-cell arm so a marker contributes no cell but still advances the duration cursor.
The performance contract is unchanged and now simpler to state: one append materializes one node, an event that changes no node keeps the previous array reference — so a chunk storm costs nothing and `nodes()` is not even recomputed — and unchanged nodes keep their object identity. The window still grows with session length rather than with the surface, which is the trade the fix exists to make; a compaction used to bound the projection for exactly the long sessions compaction serves.
The web e2e scenario now seeds a real compaction transaction over its recorded turn, so the aria golden pins both halves of the fix through the real host and a real browser: the recorded prompt and full tool output are still on screen, and one marker sits after them. The seed recording itself is untouched and stays model-authentic — replay derives the compacted turn from the recording's own surface.
## Deferred
The terminal's [compaction progress decision](../feature/2026-07-30-compaction-progress-visibility.md) uses the live standalone bracket to drive a one-cell indicator and does not change this browser projection. The marker still carries no **scale**: the checkpoint's `sourceEventSeqs` hold the shadowed count, so a separately justified count or range can be added without coupling it to progress.

# Agent Note:
Status: implemented
[English](2026-07-30-web-transcript-log-ordered-projection.md) | 中文
## Problem
## Decision
识别需要三个条件同时成立,与终端一致:`event.type === 'user/message'`、压缩缝隙的检查点插件来源,**以及** `isReplacementSurfaceEvent(event)`。一条 append 的插件来源 `user/message` 是注入上下文——跨会话引用卡片——不是压缩。
```ts
import type { COMPACT_CHECKPOINT_SOURCE } from '@deepseek-ai/dsh-compact/checkpoint'
const COMPACT_PLUGIN: typeof COMPACT_CHECKPOINT_SOURCE.plugin = 'compact'
```
重命名缝隙的插件 id 现在会在客户端产生编译错误:`TS2322: Type '"compact"' is not assignable to type '"compaction"'`。
`packages/client/runtime/tests/compact-checkpoint-pin.spec.ts` 作为行为侧的另一半保留,用由权威**值**构造的检查点驱动适配器。
## Alternatives considered
## Consequences
## Deferred

# Agent Note: The composer's glyph layer tracks the textarea's scroll offset
Status: implemented
English | [中文](2026-07-31-composer-glyph-layer-tracks-the-textarea.zh.md)
## Problem
A composer draft longer than the 14-line cap could not be scrolled. The caret moved and the selection moved, but the words stayed frozen at line 1 — no wheel gesture, drag, or arrow key brought the end of a long draft on screen, so the bottom of anything past ~14 lines was unreachable and unreadable while writing it.
The cap itself was working. The composer paints its text in two stacked layers ([InputBar](../../../../packages/client/ui-conversation/src/client/skeleton/InputBar.tsx)): the `<textarea>` owns the value, the selection, and the caret but renders its own glyphs `color: transparent`, and every visible character is painted by the `[data-input-backdrop]` div beneath it, which also carries the claim-token highlight, the chips, and the ghost hint. That split is what makes chips and highlights possible at all — a textarea cannot style a range of its own text.
The two layers were coupled in geometry but not in scroll. The backdrop is `position: absolute; inset: 0; overflow: hidden`: it is clipped, not scrolled, and nothing in the browser links its offset to the textarea's. Below the cap that is invisible, because both layers rest at offset 0 and the mirror div sizes the box to the draft. At the cap the textarea starts scrolling and the backdrop does not follow, so the layer the user actually reads never moves.
The defect is therefore exactly as old as the cap, and it hid behind the resting state: a short draft, the state every screenshot and every existing fixture captured, renders identically with and without the coupling.
## Decision
`InputBar` mirrors the textarea's `scrollTop` onto the backdrop from one `scroll` listener, registered beside the existing wheel-chaining listener in the same effect (the textarea is never unmounted — the inert state renders the same element disabled).
One listener is the whole coupling, because every way the box moves ends in a `scroll` event on the textarea. A gesture scrolls it; an edit scrolls the caret into view; a draft that shrinks past the current offset clamps it. The clamp case is the one that looks like it needs separate handling and does not: the two layers share an extent, so they clamp to the same maximum, and the textarea's clamp fires the `scroll` that mirrors it.
That shared extent is not free, and mirroring an offset is only correct while it holds. Two things break it, both discovered in review, both failing in the same direction — a backdrop shorter than the textarea, so the assignment clamps and the glyphs sit below the caret. A textarea reserves a line box for the caret after a final newline; `white-space: pre-wrap` collapses a text node's trailing newline and generates none. A draft ending in a newline therefore made the backdrop exactly one line shorter than the textarea — measured 628 against 652 — so the assignment clamped and the glyphs sat a line behind the caret at the very bottom. The backdrop now carries the same trailing-line sentinel the mirror div already did: its content is the decoration walk plus one `'\n'`, which the same collapse absorbs when the draft does not end in a newline and which supplies the missing line box when it does. Measured across plain, trailing-newline, soft-wrapping, unbreakable-run, and interior-blank-line drafts, the two extents now agree in every case.
The second premise is wrap width, and it is asserted rather than fixed. Only `.input` scrolls, so only `.input` can lose content width to a scrollbar that consumes layout space, and a narrower `.input` wraps a long draft onto more lines — worth 2 to 5 lines for an 8px difference, measured on a standalone harness, while at equal widths a textarea and a div agree exactly. Measured on the running app across the three engines Playwright ships, the widths agree on two and not on the third:
| engine | `.input` / `.backdrop` / `.mirror` wrap width | extents |
|---|---|---|
| chromium | 776 / 776 / 776 | equal |
| firefox | 776 / 776 / 776 | equal |
| WebKit | **768** / 776 / 776 | equal for the drafts measured |
WebKit's textarea loses 8px to its scrollbar while the clipped layers keep theirs. That gap predates this change and is not closed here; the mirror is unaffected on the drafts measured because the extents still agree, but a draft whose wrapping is sensitive at exactly that width would make `.input` taller and clamp the mirrored offset. The scenario asserts the equality on the lane's engine, so a regression into that state fails loudly rather than silently.
`scrollbar-gutter: stable` on the shared metrics block was tried and removed. WebKit applies it to `overflow-y: auto` but not to `overflow: hidden`, so it left `.input` at 768 against 776 — exactly the gap it was meant to close — while costing chromium 8px of text width unconditionally. Closing this needs one geometry every engine agrees on, not that property.
The mirror is one-directional: the textarea is the authority because it owns the caret, and the caret is what the browser scrolls to.
## Alternatives considered
**Give the backdrop `overflow: auto` and let it scroll itself.** It would then have a scroll offset of its own to keep in step, which is the same problem plus a second scrollbar painted over the input. The backdrop is a projection of the textarea, not an independently navigable surface.
**Drop the backdrop and style the textarea's own text.** This removes the layer split and the whole class of desync with it. Rejected because it is not implementable: a textarea renders one uniform text run, so the claim-token highlight, the chips, and the ghost hint — the reasons the backdrop exists — have no way to be expressed. Losing them to fix scrolling trades a bounded defect for a feature deletion.
**Render the draft in a `contenteditable` div instead of a textarea.** One element, one scroll offset, styleable ranges. Rejected as far out of proportion to the defect: `contenteditable` would put IME composition, undo/redo, selection semantics, and paste normalization back on us, all of which the textarea plus the input machine currently handle, and the machine already owns an undo log that assumes a textarea's value semantics.
**Scroll the backdrop from the existing wheel handler instead of a `scroll` listener.** The handler already runs on every wheel over the textarea, so it looks like the natural place. Rejected because it covers only one of the ways the box scrolls: typing at the end, `End`, arrow keys, drag-selection past the edge, and scrollbar drags all move the textarea without a wheel event. Listening to `scroll` is listening to the thing itself rather than to one of its causes.
**Reserve the scrollbar gutter on all three layers with `scrollbar-gutter: stable`.** Adopted, then reverted on measurement. The reasoning was that whatever a platform's scrollbar costs, three layers reserving it stay equal — and `overflow: hidden` is a scroll container, so the spec says the clipped layers honour it. Chromium agrees (8px reserved on each, widths 768/768/768). WebKit does not: it reserves for `overflow-y: auto` and not for `overflow: hidden`, leaving 768 against 776 — the same gap, unclosed — so the property bought nothing on the one engine where the divergence is observable while costing every chromium user 8px of text column. Reverted in favour of asserting the premise and recording the WebKit gap.
**Suppress the textarea's scrollbar instead of reserving a gutter on the other layers.** `scrollbar-width: none` on `.input` would equalize the widths without narrowing the text column. Rejected because the composer deliberately shows a thumb once the draft passes the cap — `.card` binds the l2 scrollbar tokens for exactly that — and removing it takes away the only affordance that says a long draft continues below.
**Translate the backdrop with `transform: translateY(-scrollTop)` instead of scrolling it.** A transform is not clamped by content height, so it would paper over any extent divergence — including the trailing-newline one — without matching the layers. Rejected because the divergence is the actual defect: unequal extents also mean the two layers disagree about where the last line sits, and hiding that behind an unclamped transform would leave a mismatch that resurfaces the moment anything measures the backdrop. Fixing the extent keeps one truth about the draft's height.
**Add a second mirror in a layout effect keyed on the committed draft.** This shipped in the first version of the change, on the theory that an edit reflows both layers without necessarily moving the textarea, and that a shrinking draft clamps each layer independently. Both premises are false, and it was removed after mutation-testing each hook alone against the built client: with only the layout effect disabled the browser scenario stays green, while disabling only the `scroll` listener fails it. Typing scrolls the caret into view, which is an ordinary `scroll`; a shrinking draft clamps both layers to the same maximum because their extents are equal, and the textarea's clamp fires `scroll` too. The specific hazard the effect was imagined to cover — React replacing the backdrop's children when the decoration set changes shape, resetting its offset — does not occur: measured in chromium, replacing every child of an `overflow: hidden` box preserves `scrollTop` (300 stays 300), and the only replacement that zeroes it is one that shrinks the content below the offset, which is the clamp case already covered.
**Sync in the `onChange` handler.** Rejected for the same reason plus one of its own: it fires before React commits the new draft to the backdrop, so it would mirror against the previous layout.
## Consequences
- A draft past the cap scrolls its glyphs. Measured in the browser scenario: after a wheel gesture over a 40-line draft the last line sits inside the visible box and the first has scrolled out above it; before, the last line stayed a full draft-height below the box while the textarea's own offset had moved.
- The coupling is one-directional and cheap — one assignment of one number, no measurement, no layout read beyond `scrollTop` — so it adds nothing to the typing path's cost.
- Chips, claim-token highlights, and text-ref marks stay aligned with their glyphs while scrolled, because they are positioned inside the backdrop and move with it. Nothing about the decoration walk changes.
- The composer's two-layer design keeps this hazard: any future layer added beside the backdrop needs the same mirroring, and any change to how a layer reserves its last line box breaks the extent equality the mirror depends on. The e2e scenario asserts both — the relation the user cares about (which line is on screen) and the extent equality underneath it — so a future divergence fails on the invariant rather than on a screenshot.
- Extent equality is asserted, not assumed. It is the premise that turns "mirror the offset" from correct into subtly wrong, and it failed for the trailing-newline shape before the sentinel.
- Wrap-width equality is the other premise, and it does NOT hold universally: WebKit lays `.input` out 8px narrower than the glyph layers. That predates this change and is left open, with the measurement recorded above and an assertion on the lane's engine. A draft whose wrapping turns on those 8px would clamp the mirror on WebKit.
- The composer's layout is unchanged. An earlier revision narrowed the text column by 8px on every platform to chase the wrap-width premise; measurement showed it did not buy the guarantee, so the metrics are the same as before this change.
## Testing
The unit spec in [input-bar.spec.tsx](../../../../packages/client/ui-conversation/tests/input-bar.spec.tsx) proves the mirroring path runs: it stubs both offsets, because jsdom reports `scrollHeight === clientHeight` for every element and never scrolls one, and asserts the backdrop follows the textarea to a new offset and back to the top. Reverting the `ref` makes it fail.
The user-visible fact needs a real engine, so [composer-draft-scroll.e2e.ts](../../../../apps/web/tests/composer-draft-scroll.e2e.ts) measures it in chromium against the built client: a 40-line draft in a fresh workspace's blank composer, zero model calls, with a DOM Range over the backdrop's own text reporting where the first and last lines sit relative to the visible box. A vacuity guard asserts the draft actually overflows the capped box first. A separate case drives the trailing-newline shape and asserts the two extents are equal before asserting the glyphs reach the end; each layer's maximum is observed by asking for an impossible offset and reading back the clamp, not computed from `scrollHeight`. A third asserts the gutter premise: equal wrap widths, and a reserved band greater than zero on each layer. The band is what keeps that assertion from being vacuous — the widths would also match with no reservation at all on this engine's overlay scrollbar, and it is the reservation, not the match, that carries the guarantee to a platform whose scrollbar takes real width.
Confirmed both directions against the built client. With the mirroring reverted and the packages rebuilt, the wheel case fails on the layer offsets, the typing case fails with it, and the golden diff reads `last draft line is on screen: false` while `textarea moved: true` — the reported symptom stated as a fixture. The resting-state case passes in both builds, which is the point: it is the state that hid the defect.
Note that the composer ships inside a client-module bundle, so `pnpm run build:web` alone does not pick up a change to `InputBar.tsx` — the package build must run for the browser lane to see it, and a scenario run against a stale `lib/` asserts against an older client than the tree.

Status: implemented
[English](2026-07-31-composer-glyph-layer-tracks-the-textarea.md) |
撤掉镜像并重新构建各包后滚轮用例在两层偏移上失败输入用例随之失败golden 差异读作 `last draft line is on screen: false``textarea moved: true`——即以 fixture测试前置数据形式陈述的原始现象。

# Agent Note: Compaction checkpoints use an English engineering register
Status: implemented
English | [中文](2026-07-31-english-compaction-checkpoints.zh.md)
## Problem
A compaction checkpoint becomes part of the next model request's durable prefix. When a multilingual conversation leads the compactor to preserve its narrative material in the conversation language, the checkpoint can introduce a large amount of a language that is absent from the code, tool output, and existing reasoning prefix. That language then persists across later compaction cycles and can influence the conversation model's reasoning register.
## Decision
`COMPACTION_INSTRUCTION` requires an English-language internal engineering checkpoint. It asks the model to translate narrative source material as needed while preserving exact literals, including paths, commands, errors, identifiers, signatures, and quoted wording when exactness matters. The checkpoint's headings and terse engineering bullets remain the existing structured format.
The requirement is integrated into the first sentence of the trailing compaction instruction. The replayed system prompt, tools, and conversation history remain byte-identical to the routed request, so the change retains the prefix-cache reuse owned by the [compaction summary prefix-cache note](2026-07-21-compaction-summary-prefix-cache-reuse.md).
## Alternatives considered
- **Leave checkpoint language to the replayed conversation** — rejected: the checkpoint is a durable prompt prefix, so preserving a transient conversational register can amplify it across later compactions.
- **Constrain the conversation model's language** — rejected: the policy is for an internal checkpoint, not the user's visible conversation, and a conversation-wide rule would unnecessarily change normal interaction.
- **Require ASCII-only output** — rejected: ASCII is a character-set constraint rather than an engineering-register constraint and would unnecessarily distort legitimate literals and technical material.
- **Append a separate final English-only sentence** — rejected: stating the requirement in the instruction's opening output contract is shorter and ties it directly to the checkpoint being requested.
## Consequences
- New checkpoints normalize narrative context into English while retaining the exact strings that future tool use and code work depend on.
- Existing checkpoint structure, compaction routing, and cache alignment are unchanged; only the final user instruction is different.
- The direct summarization call remains outside transcript snapshots because it emits no `assistant/chunk` events. The real-loop regression instead asserts the exact final instruction received by the summarization request.

# Agent Note:
Status: implemented
[English](2026-07-31-english-compaction-checkpoints.md) |
`COMPACTION_INSTRUCTION` 要求生成英语的内部工程检查点。

# Agent Note: Hero stays visible while a blank session opens
Status: implemented
English | [中文](2026-07-31-hero-visible-while-blank-session-opens.zh.md)
## Problem
The conversation root has a `settling` phase for a session that is still opening while its composer reads `blank`: the hero-versus-docked outcome is unknowable until history arrives, so the composer seat is hidden (`visibility:hidden`) rather than flashing the centered hero and snapping to the docked bar. Startup auto-selection turned that guard into the defect it was meant to prevent. From the no-workspace hero, `WorkspacesService.startInitialSelection` connects the most recent workspace and opens its blank session; `openState` flips to `loading` the moment `open()` lands, so the center column went blank for the whole history round-trip and then repainted, which reads as a full-page refresh on every launch.
## Decision
`ConversationRoot` reads the session list summary's `blank` flag alongside the conversation snapshot and exempts summary-proven blank sessions from settling: `settling` additionally requires `summaryBlank !== true`, and `hero` accepts a blank composer whenever the summary proves the session blank, in every open state rather than only `loading`. A session the list already reports as blank can only land on the hero, so hiding buys nothing and costs the visible flash; the same proof holds before the open starts (`cold`) and after one fails (`error`), where the previous conditions fell through to the active phase and rendered a docked bare composer under chrome `ConversationSession` hides for blank sessions. Whenever the summary does not prove the session blank — a row reporting `blank: false`, or no row at all because the list has not caught up — `summaryBlank` is not `true` and the conservative settling hide is unchanged.
The summary flag and the snapshot's own `blank` are distinct sources: the snapshot describes the session being opened, the summary is the list row that already exists before the open resolves. Only the latter is available early enough to decide the phase.
## Alternatives considered
**Drop the settling phase entirely.** Rejected because it still earns its keep for a session with no summary row: without a prior claim about emptiness, hero-versus-docked is genuinely unknowable and the flash it prevents is the worse one.
**Delay the `loading` flip until history returns.** Rejected because `openState` is authoritative about the open operation; deferring it to suppress a presentation artifact would misreport the data state to every other consumer.
**Cross-fade or otherwise animate the settling hide.** Rejected because the column has nothing to show during the round-trip either way — the fix is to not hide content whose outcome is already known, not to decorate the hiding.
## Deferred
The no-session→session tree relocation in `ConversationRoot` (the hero/composer subtree moves into the `conversation.session` outlet) still rebuilds the composer DOM on the same transition; removing it means moving `conversation.session` to `session-maybe` scope, a slot-contract change that needs its own proposal.
Object-layer reference churn found while diagnosing this — no-op projections minting fresh snapshots, the create path projecting twice, `select()` using `notifyNow` from async continuations — is real but independent of the visible flash.
## Consequences
Startup auto-selection renders the hero immediately and keeps the composer seat and header visible through the history round-trip, so launching into a recent workspace no longer looks like a page reload. Sessions whose summary does not prove them blank keep the previous settling behavior, so the guard still covers the case it was written for. Skeleton tests pin all three summary shapes: a row reporting `blank: false` settles, an absent row settles, and a summary-proven blank session opening under `loading` renders hero chrome with a live textarea.
The assembled coverage is `apps/web/tests/startup-auto-selection.e2e.ts` (keyless web browser lane): it registers a workspace, holds the `session.history` response open at the browser's network boundary, and asserts the visible frame while the auto-selected open is in flight — hero phase, hero title, painted composer — plus a recorded phase timeline of exactly `['hero']` for the whole load. Holding the round-trip is what makes it a regression test rather than a race: against a loopback host the open settles too fast to sample, and with the exemption reverted the held window is precisely when the root reports `settling`.

Status: implemented
[English](2026-07-31-hero-visible-while-blank-session-opens.md) |

# Agent Note: Same-basename Workspace adoption
Status: implemented
English | [中文](2026-07-31-same-basename-workspace-adoption.zh.md)
## Problem
A Workspace is identified by its stable id and canonical directory path, while its title is mutable display metadata. The registry nevertheless rejected a new canonical path when its basename-derived title matched another Workspace. Common directory layouts such as `/a/xx` and `/b/xx` therefore could not coexist in the Web UI, even though the [domain design](../../proposed/architecture/2026-07-24-domain-kv-storage-and-workspace.md) already permits duplicate titles and every client operation addresses a Workspace by id.
## Decision
`ctx.workspace.create(path, title?)` treats canonical path as the only uniqueness key. Repeating the same path remains idempotent and preserves the registered title. Different canonical paths create different Workspace records and may share a title; when no title is supplied, each record still derives its title from `basename(path)` without suffixing or rewriting it.
The Host's `workspace.create({ path })` adoption route inherits that rule. The Workspace manager, picker, grouping tree, selection, rename, deletion, and Session creation continue to use `WorkspaceId`, so equal labels neither merge records nor redirect an operation. The sidebar hover card exposes each canonical path when the labels need disambiguation.
Explicit naming remains stricter. `workspace.create({ name })` and `workspace.rename` continue to reject a title already registered, as described by [manual Workspace naming](../feature/2026-07-25-session-list-browsing-and-manual-order.md). This prevents a user from deliberately introducing another ambiguous label while accepting collisions imposed by existing directory names. The path-adoption rule supersedes only the title-conflict clauses in the [Workspace product flow](../feature/2026-07-25-workspace-ui-product-flow.md) and [native directory picker](../feature/2026-07-27-native-workspace-directory-picker.md).
The durable schema does not change: Workspace records already store id, path, and title independently, bootstrap can derive equal basenames, and startup validates duplicate paths rather than titles.
## Verification
Workspace registry and Host API tests create two real directories under different parents with the same final segment and assert distinct ids, paths, and durable order. The picker component renders equal labels as separate id-keyed entries. The keyless Web browser scenario adopts both directories through the composed directory flow and observes two registered and rendered Workspaces.
## Alternatives considered
**Keep title uniqueness and reject the second directory.** A display label would remain an accidental identity key and ordinary multi-root layouts would stay impossible to register.
**Suffix colliding titles automatically.** A generated label such as `xx (2)` would no longer be the directory-derived title, would need stable allocation rules across deletion and reload, and would add state solely to conceal an identity mistake.
**Use the full path as every Workspace title.** This removes the collision but makes the primary navigation label unnecessarily long. The full path remains available in the hover detail while the concise basename stays useful.
**Permit collisions from explicit rename and create-by-name operations too.** The registry supports that state, but those operations intentionally ask the user to choose a display name. Retaining their conflict response preserves the existing naming guard without blocking filesystem-selected paths.
## Consequences
Two Workspace rows may carry the same visible title. They remain independently selectable and actionable because ids own identity; users can inspect the path or rename either row to disambiguate it. An explicit rename cannot select another row's current title, including a title that arose from same-basename adoption. No storage migration or compatibility path is required.

Workspace
Status: implemented
[English](2026-07-31-same-basename-workspace-adoption.md) |
`ctx.workspace.create(path, title?)` 仅以规范路径作为唯一性键。
Host 的 `workspace.create({ path })` 接纳入口沿用该规则。
`workspace.create({ name })``workspace.rename` 仍会拒绝已注册的标题,具体见[手动 Workspace 命名](../feature/2026-07-25-session-list-browsing-and-manual-order.md)。

# Agent Note: Web stop preserves pending Queue
Status: implemented
English | [中文](2026-07-31-web-stop-preserves-queue.zh.md)
## Problem
The Web stop button reached `session.cancel`, which mapped to broad `agent.cancel({ kind: 'user' })`. During an active turn, ordinary composer submissions are already accepted as independently addressable Queue occurrences. Broad cancellation discarded every occurrence when the user intended to stop only the current generation, conflating turn interruption with the Queue's explicit delete operation.
The browser cannot repair that loss by resending visible rows. It does not own their live `InboxItemId`, wake policy, or claim race, and a resend can duplicate work that the Host has already claimed.
## Decision
`session.cancel` is the Web Host API's active-turn stop. It calls `agent.cancel({ kind: 'user' }, { keepInbox: true })`, preserving pending inbox work while cooperatively aborting the current turn. The underlying option preserves queued and steering entries; the Web Queue projection continues to expose only queued entries.
The AgentLoop starts no concurrent replacement turn. It closes and flushes the interrupted turn, reaches cancellation quiescence, and then claims the next waking queued occurrence through its existing FIFO driver. That claim emits `agent/inbox/dequeue`, so the Host's authoritative `session/queue` snapshot retires the claimed row and leaves the remaining tail visible. The browser neither resends nor promotes any row. Work that ignores cancellation delays this handoff until it settles.
This mapping changes only the Host `session.cancel` endpoint used by Web clients. The default `Agent.cancel()` contract remains broad, ACP and TUI retain their existing cancellation policies, and `AgentHandle.dispose()` still clears pending work during teardown. Queue row removal remains the explicit Web action for discarding one pending occurrence.
## Alternatives considered
**Keep broad cancellation for the stop button.** Rejected because stopping one generation should not destroy independently queued user intent; the Queue already owns explicit deletion.
**Resend the next row from the browser after cancellation.** Rejected because the Host owns occurrence identity and claim order. Client resubmission can duplicate work, reorder the FIFO, or race an authoritative dequeue.
**Start the next turn before cancelled work reaches quiescence.** Rejected because two turns would concurrently mutate one session log and share Agent-owned resources. Cooperative cancellation waits truthfully for the active work to settle.
**Add a wire option for broad versus preserving cancellation.** Rejected until the Web product has a separate “stop and clear Queue” interaction. The existing stop button has one policy, while per-row delete already supplies the current discard control.
## Verification
AgentLoop coverage holds an active model stream, queues two waking turns, cancels with `keepInbox`, and pins the aborted-then-completed turn reasons, FIFO user-message order, absence of discard events, and eventual idle state. The keyless Web scenario drives the built composition over HTTP/SSE: it stops one hung turn, observes the next queued occurrence start while the tail remains visible, stops that turn, and observes the final queued occurrence complete. Its accessibility snapshot pins the intermediate preserved-Queue state.
## Consequences
Web stop preserves accepted queued intent and advances it automatically after truthful cancellation settlement. Queue rows may remain visible while uncooperative active work winds down, and external steering preserved by the same inbox option can enter the next admitted turn even though Web does not render steering in QueueDock. A future bulk-clear interaction requires an explicit product action rather than overloading stop.

Queue
Status: implemented
[English](2026-07-31-web-stop-preserves-queue.md) | 中文
Web 停止按钮调用 `session.cancel`,后者映射到广义 `agent.cancel({ kind: 'user' })`。
它调用 `agent.cancel({ kind: 'user' }, { keepInbox: true })`,在协作式中止当前轮次的同时保留待处理 inbox 工作。
该认领会发出 `agent/inbox/dequeue`,因此 Host 的权威 `session/queue` 快照会退役已认领行,并使剩余队尾保持可见。
`Agent.cancel()` 默认契约仍为广义取消ACP 和 TUI 保留既有取消策略,`AgentHandle.dispose()` 在拆卸期间仍会清除待处理工作。
